Announcing that my fourth Faithful Johannes album, ‘Durham, Come Save Me’ is out on July 3rd!
Ten songs about County Durham history and myths. A bit of a detour from the last album (and the next one). The music’s stripped back and lo-fi; nylon-stringed guitars, wonky piano and sampled synths.
‘I AM THE MIGHTY NEPTUNE’, told from the perspective of the Neptune statue in Durham City marketplace is stream-able on Bandcamp now – go have a listen!
The album’s a collection of first person stories, some based on real people, some imagined, from Neolithic settlers, to a startled woodworm, a supposed witch, a doomed tightrope walker, Elsie Crouch a WW2 diarist, frustrated and separated from her husband and her former life on the Med, the King of Scotland hiding under a bridge. Odd tales, from new and unique perspectives.
I wrote and recorded it solo over 10 weeks last year.
