Hey, so I’ve submitted loads of tracks to the Fresh on Net site, set up by Tom Robinson, as it’s a route to get on his BBC 6 Music introducing playlist…. Tom’s been kind enough to pick my songs quite a few times now, but I’ve never been that successful in the popular vote that leads to the separate Fresh Faves playlist…. until now! Hey. So. Tom Robinson picked mine and Neocia’s collaboration Ultra Deep for this week’s BBC 6 Music Mixtape. Tom gets sent 200 songs a week, so we’re very grateful to have made it into the 60 minutes – “the unmistakable tones of Durham City’s poet laureate Faithful Johannes”.

A child’s obsession with the cosmos is later shattered by NASA’s 2008 release of an Ultra Deep Field image, a tiny speck in the sky containing 10,000 galaxies. It’s all hugely overwhelming.

My new single – Summer, Can’t Sleep – is out on Thursday July 27th in all the usual places. It’s partly about being unable to get a good night sleep between May and August because of that annoying sun so early, so bright, that the curtains can’t hold back… it’s also about some other stuff.
